Description. A treelet to 7 m, without spines; leaves paired, petiole to 4 cm, blade to 12 x 35 cm, glabrous, oblanceolate to elliptic, usually widest beyond the middle, often asymmetric,apex acute, base acute,midveins and lateral veins expressed above, lateral veins 10-14, tertiary veins impressed above; inflorescences short, 1-4 cm, opposite the major leaf; flowers to 15 mm across, corolla white, anthers yellow; fruit subglobose, to 18 mm long, yellow-green, glabrous, seeds bean-shaped, not flat. Similar species: Solanum arboreum- a shrub usually less than 1 m tall with similar leaf arrangement, but much smaller flowers and leaves. Solanum brenesii- is a treelet with similar leaf conformation, but the blades are narrow and elliptic and a more yellow-green color; it grows at lower elevations on the Pacific side in more seasonal habitat than rovirosanum. Local distribution. Habitat. Light gaps and stream margins in mature forest, secondary forest, forest edge, clearings. Species range. Mexico to Ecuador Abundance. Common Phenology. Flower: Feb-Apr (most of year); Fruit: Apr-Nov (most of year).
