Description. Weak treelet, mature at 2-5 m; twigs with swollen nodes, often with two dorsal ridges; leaves alternate, usually paired, to 10 x 22 cm, minor leaf to 4 cm, almost round, blade glabrous, elliptic, acuminate, base asymmetric, inflorescence 1-15 mm, arising between leaf pairs, bearing 3-15 buds and flowers at once; flowers 4-parted, glabrous, with pedicel 15 mm, calyx 4-5 mm, without lobes, corolla 12-16 mm, free to calyx margin, pale green, waxy, shiny, anthers 3 mm cream; fruit

Similar species. Cuatresia riparia is more common, has narrower leaves, and larger, sessile, yellow flowers. Solanum ramonense is mature at less than 1 m and has small white flowers.

Local distribution. Pacific slope at 1500 m; Atlantic slope at 700-1200 m.

Habitat. Forest edge, along streams, light gaps and open understory of mature forest.

Species range. Nicaragua to Peru.

Abundance. Uncommon.

Seed dispersers. Bats?

Comments. Much less common than Cuatresia riparia. Generally the leaves are larger, but the minor leaves very small.
