Identification:
Male: antennae black, forewing costa all black, ventral forewing border with white spot line, markings blacker than fulvimargo. Female: pattern darker than male, with hindwing orange-brown, dorsal hindwing without marginal spots.

Wingspan: 48-50mm

Forewing length: 25mm


Local distribution: Most common on Pacific slope at 1300-1500 m; occasional on Atlantic slope from 700-1200 m (rarely down to 250 m).

Similar species: The male is similar to Pteronymia fulvescens, P. fulvimargo, Ithomia xenos. The female is most similar to the female of Godyris zavaleta.

Species range: Costa Rica to South America

Abundance: Uncommon

Larval host plants: Solanum tuerckheimii

Early stages: Solitary
